Zen and the Art of Fixing the Front Door

Comments

I'm feeling it, this post. One of the many seemingly insurmountable things surrounding the immediate separation was how to deal with stuff 'about the house' that I never had to deal with before. E wasn't all that available or whatever, but he was handy, and when in the mood, could manage quite a bit of stuff. Me---the idea of hanging curtain rods immobilized me. At first, I asked my dad and brother-in-law to do things, then wearied of that. I have since found a nice handyman who came in a few months back and did some more things. If I had the time (and inclination) I might tackle some things alone (I am woman, hear me roar) but I find that just juggling the tasks I have to juggle are enough right now. No point in frustrating myself further by trying to do something (drill bits anyone?) that I seem to not have the aptitude for, especially under pressure. BUT I did paint the basement myself. And I love putting together furniture (IKEA)...

I love the thoughts you posted about the front door. Does Juan still have a key? E does. And my door sucks. I like the idea of re-doing it. I like the way you described it. I wonder what color a South facing door should be...?????

Hi Lucille-
Juan does still have the key. It seems right still to me. I have told myself that change has to happen on a continuum when we are ready for each step. I have had lots of well meaning family challenge that decision but I firmly believe that this is MY journey so I get to make the call.
I think one of the hardest things about this journey if figuring out exactly how the small stuff works--how the curtains get hung now, how the lawn gets mowed. Even two years out its still amazing to me how tough it is. Also, each of those small obstacles carries with it new awareness of the change in our family--an can therefor feel so much bigger. I can relate to the I am woman hear me roar thing--I had so much the intention of just doing it all myself...Sigh...That doesn't work.
Cool that you are thinking of redoing your front door. Here is a link to Pat's site where she talks about front doors if you are interested. http://whitelotusfengshui.com/tmp/frontdoortips.html
South facing doors need either wood or fire energy--so shades of greens, reds, natural wood would all work well. Are you sure the door faces South (vs Southeast or Southwest). That might change it a bit...
Have a great day
Meg

I'm going to check the compass thingy in my truck in the morning. I know the sun rises to the left of the front door, which is why I think it's South. But it could more specifically be Southeast... We shall see in the a.m.

You have a great one too!
